Interview with a Blogger: October Edition

Let’s Start with Some Basics:

1. Tell me a little about yourself – your “elevator pitch” if you will.

My name is Zoë, I’m in my mid-thirties and have spent the last couple of years learning about myself, what I want, and how to develop as a writer. I’m a very bubbly person with a dream goal of being a published writer.

2. What about your blog? How would you describe it?

My blog is called Positive Yet Cynical and I would describe it as a variety of ramblings really. It’s a blog where I post day to day stuff about mental health, other personal struggles and opinions, book reviews, and some of my very own written poetry.

3. When and why did you start blogging?

I got my WordPress account at the end of October 2019 but didn’t start posting until December 2019. I started blogging because I’d been journaling for years and had started writing courses. It made me realize I wanted to have my own outlet to share my views on things. Whether it be my personal struggles, a random haiku I’d written, or a rant about a book, I wanted the opportunity to share things with others.

Let’s Learn More About the Blog:

4. How would you describe your ideal reader?

Anyone with an open mind and an interest in all new things.

5. What are your favorite topics to write about?

I love writing about my own personal memoirs and things that I have gone through. And things that I’ve learned.

6. What was your most successful post?

Oooh I’m not sure exactly although I think ‘Tips on dating someone with anxiety disorder’ and ’20 things I learned in 2020′ got the most recognition and feedback.

7. Why should readers subscribe to your blog? What can you offer your audience?

I think people should subscribe to my blog because it’s a very varied blog to read. It’s never all the same thing or topic. As someone with ADHD and a very big personality I like to always do various things, so my blog is the same way. Some days it’ll be a post about home truths, another day it’ll be a book review.

And I also think I can offer a real honest and relatable approach in my blog that readers can relate to.

Now Let’s Learn More About You as a Blogger:

8. How would you describe your blogging style – your “voice” as a writer?

My blogging style is very non-specific and my blog posts can differ from each other quite often. I do try and keep an easy to read tone to my posts, though, and not try and complicate things too much. Instead, I like to keep my writing simple and to the point so that anyone can read it.

9. Is blogging your full-time job or a side gig?

It’s a side gig, that’s why sometimes it can be hard to keep up with the regularity of posting because I have a very intense full-time job.

10. If you make money from blogging, can you share the primary ways and sources of generating income?

Sadly I don’t make money from blogging, yet.

11. How much time do you spend blogging?

It varies week to week, I try and spend at least a few hours a week just getting posts written up and scheduled and some ‘Twitter maintenance’ time to share posts and links and engage with others. Some weeks I can do a good solid 4 hours and others I’m struggling with 2.5

12. How do you stay motivated as a blogger?

I set myself little weekly goals of the things I want to do to get successful in my writing and blogging. But I also don’t beat myself up too much if I am falling behind a little bit, or I’ve had a quiet week on the blog and socials. My motivation is basically telling myself it’s okay to fall behind sometimes so long as you get back up again.

And Finally, I Want to Learn More about You as a Person:

13. You’re a Taurus – do you think that describes you well?

Oh 100%. Whenever I have read Taurus traits they are so on-point for me. I am a Taurean through and through!

14. If you could only choose 3 words to describe you, what words would you choose?

Bubbly, Weird and Dramatic.

15. What do you like to do in your free time?

Writing, from writing course related stuff to poetry, short stories and story ideas for a novel, I love to write. And also reading a good book!
