Now that Summer is here, we’re all spending more time outside in shorts and bathing suits. And no matter how confident you are, we all want to achieve our version of that perfect beach body. Which means getting enough exercise. For those of you who don’t necessarily love working out, though, that can be a challenge. Luckily, you can overcome that by finding fun workouts to try.

Today’s guest post is all about fun workouts to try this summer. Keep reading for Erika’s take on how to enjoy exercising.

7 Ways to Have Fun with Fitness

BY: Erika

It was a lovely day outside. Taking a short power walk, I found myself at the entrance of the fancy new gym that had just opened up. But, to my surprise, I watched as two people emerged with unhappy faces, complaining to one another.

“I just don’t like going to the gym,” says the man. “There’s nothing fun to do in there. It’s all the same—lifting weights and running on the treadmill. It feels more like a chore.”

The woman with him sighs and shakes her head. “An expensive chore at that. I can’t believe we have to pay $200 a month. Isn’t there a better way to get healthy?

As I listen to them, I remember being on the playground as a kid. Swinging on monkey bars, climbing on the jungle gym, running to the slides. Not only was it fun and free, it was a good way to get some exercise in.

Why can’t we have that same type of fun workouts as adults?

Newsflash: you can! You don’t have to go to the gym in order to get a great workout. In fact, there are plenty of fun things you can do instead. Enjoyable ways to exercise that will leave you with a smile on your face.

7 Fun Workouts to Try

1. Go to a Trampoline Park

Did you ever think that if you didn’t get all this excess energy out of you that you would just start bouncing off the walls? Well in a trampoline park you can!

Trampoline exercises are a playful way to relieve stress, increase strength from top to toe, better your balance, and improve your cardio-vascular system. The best part is, if you are willing to look, they often have discounts that allow you to visit as often as you want.

2. Ride a Bike

Ecological, functional, and way less expensive than a car. This wonderful mode of transportation can help you discover new places while getting a good workout.

And if you need to improve your joints, posture, and coordination, biking will help with that.

3. Take up Hoop Dancing

Round and round it goes, melting fat with each flow. When you spin right round with a hula hoop, you will get a smile and slim down. Hoop dancing burns calories, fat, and inches while being both portable and inexpensive.

The best part is that if you love TikTok or YouTube videos you can learn some pretty cool moves to impress your friends.

Aerial Yoga - fun workouts to try
4. Try an Aerial Class

Would you like to swing from the stars? Fly like a bird or dance in the air? If you answered yes to any of these questions then aerial workout classes, like yoga or dance, are perfect for you.

Aerial yoga is an excellent deep stretch exercise that increases flexibility, improves your breathing, and releases tension that your body tends to keep.

This is the most expensive suggestion on this list but it is well worth it. Places like this often have class passes that will make the cost more reasonable. And the next time Cirque De Soleil is in town, you can join in.

5. Just Dance

Is there a better way to celebrate than dancing your heart out? If there is, I haven’t found it yet.

Dancing is good for your whole body and it can prevent a lot of degenerative diseases such as osteoporosis. So, the next time you are at a concert or a club, dance like no one is looking because you will reap the rewards of that. And that is worth celebrating.

6. Take a Hike

“When nature calls, you answer.” We have all heard this but we associate this with something completely different. But in this case, you need to get your boots on and head to the nearest trail.

Hiking is good for the mind, body, and soul. You will find yourself getting better sleep, anxiety will be reduced, and overall immunity is boosted. The best part is, you don’t need too many fancy items for this (unless you want to), just get your good shoes on and go for a walk. That’s all it is.

7. Go for a Swim

Beaches, pools, and water parks. What do these have in common besides general enjoyment? We get to play in the water!

Swimming is a full body workout mixed with a feeling of total freedom. Plus, when you swim, your body doesn’t have added stress like it does with running or walking. There’s no extra impact with water.

Fun Workouts Do Exist!

Life comes with plenty of challenges, but staying healthy doesn’t have to be a chore. It just takes some creativity, research, and a strong sense of fun.

And just to be safe have at least $20.00 in your pocket. You might have to stop and get a cold one on the way home.  Of course, when I say that, I mean an ice cream cone.

Two scoops please!

I love this post. I really like Erika’s writing style too. I enjoy a good workout but sometimes it can become a chore. These are some awesome fun ideas here. I would love to try aerial yoga. I’m already fan of yoga so doing it in the air sounds awesome. I use to hike in highschool and haven’t since then. I miss it and should look for a nice trail to walk soon. Great post. Thanks for sharing.

I think Aerial yoga sounds like so much fun, but I struggle with it on the ground, I can only imagine trying to do it in the air lol

What a great post! There are indeed times when I do not feel like working out with weights or equipment, so I love dancing and I am excited to start biking to college when I start this fall. 🙂
