Going through a breakup is the absolute WORST. But going through a breakup during the holidays? That’s hands-down the most heartbreaking thing ever. So, if someone you love is in that boat, here are some perfect post breakup gifts to (hopefully) lift their spirits this season.

Best Post Breakup Gifts To Give This Season

Post breakup gifts are always hard to get for someone. As much as you want to, nothing you do or say (or buy) is going to automatically make your loved one feel better. And when we give gifts, we tend to really want a positive reaction. That’s a tall order for someone going through heartbreak!

But, hopefully, some of these post breakup gift ideas will spark some inspiration in you.

Post Breakup Gifts to Give

1. Something to Bring Comfort and Relaxation

Let’s be honest – when you’re going through a breakup, sometimes you just want to stay in bed forever. While I don’t recommend that, I do understand it. So, it’s a nice gesture to get your loved one something that can comfort them – literally.

Cozy blankets, essential oils, candles, bath products (like shower steamers or bath bombs) are all really good relaxation gifts. For scented items, like oils or candles, sage, lavender, jasmine, and eucalyptus are all known to be calming.

2. Something to Make Her Feel Beautiful

Anytime I’ve gone through a breakup, I start to feel really bad about myself. I think that’s probably the case for most people, and women especially start to doubt their physical appearance. So, beauty products tend to make great post-breakup gifts.

Sidlab is an Eco-friendly hair care company based out of Portland. All of their products are Paraben and Sulfate free (which is essential if you have color-treated hair!) They also use natural ingredients like essential oils, rice protein, and marshmallow extract.

With Sidlab, you can give something practical and indulgent at the same time. Something designed to make your friend feel beautiful. Their shampoo and conditioners are fantastic, but my absolute favorite so far is the Satin shine spray. (John even noticed that my hair looked shinier and he’s a guy, so… that should tell you a lot.)

Sidlab Hair Products start at $28

Makeup and skincare products are always a pretty safe bet – most women love to have a variety on their vanity. I love the Naked eye-shadow palettes. And, for skincare, sheet masks are a good choice as they can also aid in relaxation. Other beauty ideas could include perfume, body lotions, or even jewelry.

Gifting your friend with something that will make her feel beautiful again is going to go a long way to helping her feel better emotionally, too.

3. Something to Make Her Laugh

Some people find that humor helps greatly in times of distress. If your friend happens to be that type of person, there are plenty of humorous post breakup gifts out there you can find. And, some of them might also be genuinely helpful! A “personal massager,” for instance, will probably make her chuckle. But, she’ll use it, too.

Post Breakup Books to Give

OK, OK – you know I had to include a section about books here. Sometimes, when you’re in the middle of heartbreak, it’s helpful to do some soul-searching. Often, people in the throes of post-breakup pain are seeking some sort of explanation or directive to help them get through it.

Books can make great post-breakup gifts for that exact reason. Here are some of my suggestions:

1. From Heartbreak to Healing in 30 Days: A Breakup Recovery Guide

If you follow me on Twitter or Instagram, you likely already know that I’ve got a new eBook out now.

From Heartbreak to Healing in 30 Days is a post-breakup recovery guide and journal workbook aimed at helping anyone struggling to get through a painful separation.

I’ve based this book on both my educational background and my personal experiences with heartbreak.

(See my posts about Max here and here.)

It’s an honest, no-bullshit approach to healing in a faster and more effective way.

2. Other Great Post-Breakup Guide Books

I mean, obviously I’m going to recommend my own book, right!? But, there are plenty of other helpful breakup guides to get your loved one. During my own most painful breakups, I always found comfort in learning as much as I could about the entire process.

First, It’s Called a Breakup Because it’s Broken is a recovery guide from the writer of He’s Just Not That Into You.

Next, a book by Rachel Hollis. If you follow social media stuff at all, you’ve probably heard of Rachel. She wrote a little book called Girl, Wash Your Face and basically became an overnight sensation. And, yes, I know she’s had some controversy in recent years, but she’s a good writer and her new book, Didn’t See That Coming delves into her own experience with divorce.

Badass Women Give the Best Advice is a book of affirmations that will not only cheer her up but it’ll also look great on a coffee table.

Finally, I’ve included The Breakup Book Club. Unlike the others, this one is fiction, but sometimes it’s nice to have an escape. If your friend is a huge fan of reading but isn’t ready to do the self-reflection required in a healing guide, this is a good option.

3. Anything By Rupi Kaur

I’m a huge fan of Rupi Kaur. If you haven’t heard of her yet, you’re in for a treat.

Her poetry is best described as insta-poetry – bite sized and perfect for sharing on social media. I have several of her books and absolutely adore them. Her writing is simple, yet incredibly poignant and deep.

Conclusion

No matter what you decide to get your recently dumped friend this holiday season, it’s always the thought that matters most. And the fact that you wanted to think of something to cheer her up just shows what a loving friend you are.

What do you think of my list? Do you have any other post breakup gifts to suggest? Let me know in the comments below!
