With every new year, there are new trends, topics, and TV shows to look forward too. But there are also new books, which are always fun to discuss. So, today, I’m sharing 12 books I’m excited to read in 2023.

Types of Books I’m Excited To Read In 2023

If you’re anything like me, you probably have certain genres, tropes, or even authors that you return to time and again. Especially when I’m in a reading slump (ahem, like right now) it’s helpful to draw upon this list of favorite book types.

My personal favorites include psychological and domestic thrillers, book-club fiction, and novels about fictional celebrities or the ultra-wealthy behaving badly. And luckily, there are several of those coming out this year!

I also included some books by my favorite authors because that’s always a plus.

12 Books I’m Excited to Read in 2023

1. Small World

Laura Zigman  •  Women’s Fiction  •  January 2023

A heartwarming novel that tells the story of two sisters (both newly divorced) who move in together as adults and finally reckon with their childhood.

2. The Villa

Rachel Hawkins  •  Domestic Thriller  •  January 2023

A twisty thriller about authors, musicians, fame, and murder inspired by Fleetwood Mac and the Manson murders.

*update: I’ve just finished reading this one and WOW it did not disappoint.

3. Really Good, Actually

Monica Heisey  •  Women’s Fiction  •  January 2023

A debut novel about a 29 year old, recently divorced woman, searching for happiness in the wake of an unexpected breakup. Written by comedian and screenwriter for TV shows like Schitt’s Creek.

4. Hayley Aldridge Is Still Here

Elissa R. Sloan  •  Women’s Fiction •  February 2023

A celebrity-gossip inspired novel about a child star and former Hollywood “It” Girl, Hayley Aldridge, fighting back against the conservatorship that has controlled her life for the past decade.

I’ve read (and loved!) her previous book, The Unraveling of Cassidy Holmes

5. A Death At The Party

Amy Stuart •  Domestic Fiction •  March 2023

On the day of her summer garden party, Nadine, devoted wife and mother, finds herself standing over a dead body in her basement. The thriller is set over the course of a single day as she prepares for the party that inevitably goes terribly wrong.

A mother sits by her son’s hospital bed after he falls from his bedroom window in the middle of the night, refusing to speak to anyone. Meanwhile, her neighbors must reckon with the roles they played in the tragedy.

10. The Five Star Weekend

Elin Hilderbrand  •  General Fiction  •  June 2023
