Summer might be nearly halfway over, but as we all know, style never stops! And while many of us look for new swimwear in, say, May, July is when the top trends emerge. After all, Miami Swim Week is held July 5-10 this year! So, with that in mind, here are the hottest swimwear trends to consider trying this summer.

Swimwear Trends for 2023

There are plenty of new fashion trends every season, but during summer, you get double the fun with both street-style and swimwear trends.

Barbie Chic

With Barbie coming out this summer, its no surprise that Barbiecore has once again taken over the fashion world – and swimwear is no exception. In fact, I’d argue that it’s an even bigger trend by the pool. You might not feel super confident in head-to-toe pink, but it’s less intimating to throw on a hot pink one-piece or a blush-colored bikini.

Best of all, this trend really covers all swimwear styles and all shades of pink, so you really can’t go wrong!

Sportier Styles

We’ve certainly seen a lot of skimpy swimwear trends lately, but on the other side of the spectrum, sporty styles are making a big comeback.

Of course, the most obvious example would be a simple one-piece – which is always a classy poolside look. But athletic styles can be found in bikinis and two-piece suits as well. They typically have more coverage – think sports bra instead of push-up bra.

Rash guards are also in this year along with one of the coolest new trends: long-sleeve swimsuits. And if you think a long-sleeve one-piece can’t be chic, I’d like to point to exhibit A: Beyonce.

Feminine Flair

Athletic swimwear might be more practical for certain activities, but sometimes, you just want to lounge poolside and look pretty. For that, try an ultra-feminine suit.

Whether on wedding dresses or swimwear, ruffles, 3-D flowers, and bows are showing up all over the runway. Another cute trend is the lingerie-inspired bikini – think lace details and underwire tops. Finally, there’s my personal favorite: the swim dress or skirt.

Hot tip – grab a swim skirt to pair with your existing swimsuit or bikini top for those days when you want to look extra glam by the pool.

Mermaid Motifs

The Little Mermaid might not have been as big of a hit as expected, but the Mermaidcore trend is still going strong. So, finding it on the list of 2023 swimwear trends is a no brainer!

Some Mermaidcore basics to look for include shimmery swimsuits, added sparkle, mesh-panels, and shades of blue and green. You can even go all the way with textured scales or scallop-edged bikini tops.

Retro Design

A few years ago, the high-waisted bikini was everywhere. While we’re moving back to the lower-cut bottoms now, we’re still seeing a big retro trend. This time, though, the retro influence is coming in the form of patterns.

Retro prints, particularly floral prints, are absolutely huge this year.

Sexier Swimsuits

Sure, itty-bitty bikinis are sexy, but the one-piece is definitely giving it a run for its money. Don’t think a one-piece can be sexy? Think again.

The one-pieces of 2023 are both elegant and sensual. Think high-leg suits, cut-outs, mesh paneling, and a deep-V neckline.

Honestly I am a floral and modest bathing suit kinda girl so the sexy one pieces appeal to me the most, but I do like the mermaidcore outfits.
